Kaiwen strongly believes in cultivating creativity and independent learning in her teaching. She has experiences of teaching in diverse environments, ranging from conducting creative workshops, individual lessons, school band programmes and coaching chamber ensembles.
Her teaching engagements from 2017-2018 in the Netherlands include introducing young children from ages 4-7 to clarinet at the United World College Maastricht, coaching chamber ensembles at the Orlando Festival – Samenspel Course in both 2017 and 2018 and as a clarinet tutor at the Bonnefanten College in Maastricht.
Highlights of her past experiences include facilitating the “Healing Music” Workshop and recording at Alexandra Hospital in Singapore, leading creative music workshop for young music students and members from the Singapore National Youth Orchestra Sinfonia and being a Teaching Assistant at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music for the history course “Music and Context: Before 1800”. She was also a teacher at private music schools, teaching clarinet, piano and theory for 2 years. During this time many of her students have taken and achieved Distinction at the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Graded Exams.
Her students make up a wide age range, from children as young as 4 years old and seniors who are young at heart. She is flexible with her teaching and designs lessons to cater to individual needs.
She is currently a freelance musician and educator based in Singapore.
